Migrants' Use of Social Media

The People for Change Foundation has conducted exploratory research on the use of social media by migrants in Malta. The project results feed into an improved understanding of the most effective ways of engaging with migrant communities through the use of social media, particularly on how to disseminate information relating to migrants’ rights and opportunities in Malta.

The project aimed to recognize and understand the use of social media by migrants as both a tool for communication, for social and professional networking as well as a means of information distribution.

The key research output of the project is a report highlighting the use of social media as well as differences in the use of such tools by EU Nationals,Third Country Nationals and Asylum Seekers, and recognition of social media channels that could be used by migrant communities and rights groups in order to achievemore effective communication with their members.

In order to deliver these outputs, the People for Change Foundation has:

-          Collected and analyzed secondary research on the use of social media by migrants,
-          Conducted and analyzed field research with migrants in Malta.
