Minding the Information Gap...
1985 was the International Year of Youth.
The international community was discussing the role of young people in development and peace; however, there had yet to be strategic long-term committment to young people around the world. This committment came in 1995, at the ten-year anniversary from International Year of Youth. Coming together, the international community established 10 Priority Areas for youth around the world.
2005 saw the introduction of 5 Additional Priority Areas - HIV/Aids, ICTs, Intergenerational Relations, Globalization and Youth in Conflict.
The questions being addressed here are:
- What challenges are young people facing in the world?
- What can governments, civil society and young people themselves do to tackle these challenges?
The areas set here are those established by the international community as Priority Areas and Additional Priority Areas. Moreover, due to their relevance, Disability and Indigenous Issues are added.
Within the Main Menu you'll also find a section entitled Other Areas, relating to topics that are up-and-coming within the field of youth.
Children's issues are dealt with on the Seen & Heard page:
